Golden National Historic District Today

Golden Town

Today the town of Golden quietly awaits your visit.  Located 3+ miles east of the town of Wolf Creek on Coyote Creek Road, it is easily found by turning east at the north-bound off-ramp of Interstate 5, or going under the freeway at the south-bound on-ramp.

You will know when you have arrived when the historic church appears on the north side of the road.  It is open to the public year round and at any time of day.  [You may encounter a wedding or special event.]  In addition to the church, you will see the remaining "dollhouse-like" remnant of the Ruble house, the old Post Office and an outbuilding that probably used to be a tack room.

Visiting the town of Golden you will find it easy to imagine the lives of the people of the times.

Coyote Wetlands

Continue past the church 100 yards to find the parking and entrance to Coyote Wetlands.  This natural area is the result of a reclamation project that has re-established plants and improved habitat for animals after many years of mining activity.  Trails and interpretive signs guide you through the 60+ acres of ponds, wetlands and natural areas.
