Welcome to the web site for Golden National Historic District and Coyote Wetlands
Golden is a ghost town located 3 miles east of Wolf Creek, Oregon. For a short time it was a bustling mining town of more than 200 inhabitants, with "two churches and no saloons". Today visitors to this National Historic District can explore the remaining buildings perched above the valley where miners once toiled. The church stands firm and ready for contemplation of history and deeper things.
The former mining area is being reclaimed by slowing down runoff with ponds and wetlands. Native plants are being planted and weeds removed to invite wildlife. Trails wind through the site to reveal natural and historic treasures.
-
The town of Golden is now owned and managed by the Oregon Department of Parks and Recreation.
-
The wetland area is owned and managed by Josephine County.
-
Golden Coyote Wetlands Inc. dissolved its non-profit corporation in 2009.
